Wow -- it's getting harder

Somewhere in my mind, I have been convinced that as the twins got older, things would get easier. Not so! Our newest challenge, the cranial helmets, has created some bizarre sleeping patterns. In this case, no sleeping!!! If you read my earlier post, we thought only Owen would need the cranial helmet to help is flat head. Both boys ended up needing them. While both are adjusting to having the half pound joys on their heads, neither care for them. Where just a few weeks ago, both boys were going to sleep at 8:30 pm, they now won't go down until about 9:30. They used to sleep all the way through the night until 7 am. Their new favorite wake up time is 4:30 am. Owen has become a real challenge at bed time. When he gets tired, he has crying fits that can last for 30 minutes. I understand this can be normal for some babies, but it only serves to wake up Evan, and then he starts crying. Before I know it, the house is filled with crying, the cat is freaked out, my wife is tense, and I am looking for my friend, Mr. Jack Daniels. We are starting to dread bed time because of the hour and a half process that seems to transpire every night. I guess it is time to read some books on dealing with fussy babies. Owen has had a cold and the helmets certainly don't help, so maybe this is a temporary phase.

A week long vacation in Maui sounds like a great idea about now. I can almost hear the peaceful trade winds blowing, the gentle sound of the surf caressing the shore, and I can almost taste a Mai Tai with fresh pineapple. I guess I'll settle for the oasis in my boys' nursery. We decorated it in a Hawaii Surfers theme. Aloha to Parenthood!
